Mirror Drill: Mechanics: Stand in front of a full-sized mirror, practice your pitching form by watching yourself (no ball). Look for errors in your mechanics and try correcting them. Where are your hips? Are you ready defensively after follow-through? Where is your release (also check release for movement pitches)? This drill will help you perfect your form.

Wall Drill: Defensive: You can be the best pitcher in the world, but if you can't back it up defensively, then what's the point? You will need a strong wall (outdoors) and a tennis ball (the bouncier, the better). Start at normal pitching distance, pitch the ball and try to catch it off the rebound. After five successful catches, move up a full step and repeat until you are about five feet from the wall. This drill will help you react to a hit up the middle.

Quick Hands Drill: Defensive: This is very similar to the Wall Drill above. You will need a tennis ball and a strong outdoor wall. Start as far as possible from the wall and throw overhand, catch the ball off the rebound and throw it back as quickly as possible. NO GLOVE! Take a step up after each successful catch and throw. This is a rapid drill and can be repeated as often as you like.

Fly Ball Drill: Defensive: Grab a tennis ball, "Softie Ball," or a regular old softball... toss into the air as high as you can and catch it! Focus on getting under the ball.
